What to Expect at Your Newborn Session
Bringing your newborn in for photos can feel a little daunting, especially if it’s your first baby. The good news? You don’t need to worry about a thing.
My newborn sessions are completely baby-led, which means we take our time and work around feeds, cuddles and settling whenever they’re needed. There’s never any rush.
My Swan Valley studio is kept warm and cosy, with everything ready for your little one. You’ll have access to beautiful wraps, blankets and outfits, so there’s no need to pack much besides the usual essentials like nappies, wipes, a dummy (if you use one) and extra milk if bottle feeding.
If older siblings are coming along, they’re more than welcome too! I know little ones have busy minds, so there’s no expectation for them to sit still the whole time.
The most important thing is that you relax and soak up these precious moments. I’ll gently guide you throughout the session while capturing all those tiny details you’ll never want to forget.
-
The best time is while you’re still pregnant, ideally after your 20-week scan. We’ll pencil in your due date and confirm your session once your little one arrives.
-
I recommend photographing newborns within the first 5–14 days, but beautiful images can still be captured if your baby is a little older.
-
Don’t worry at all! Every baby is different. My sessions are completely baby led, so we allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and settling. Awake babies often give us some of the sweetest photos too.
-
Absolutely! Your newborn session is about your growing family, so partners and siblings are always welcome.
-
Neutral, timeless colours photograph beautifully. I also have a client closet available for mums and a selection of beautiful outfits and blankets for your baby.
-
Most sessions last around 1 - 1.5 hours, allowing plenty of time to work at your baby’s pace.
