How to Prepare Toddlers for Family Photos

Family photos with toddlers don’t have to be stressful—in fact, the best sessions usually happen when we let kids be kids!

Here are a few simple ways to help your little one feel relaxed before your session.

Keep it Positive

Talk about your photoshoot like it’s a fun family adventure rather than something they have to do. The less pressure, the better!

Don’t Worry About “Perfect”

Some of the most beautiful images come from cuddles, giggles, exploring and those in-between moments. There’s no expectation for your toddler to sit still or smile at the camera the whole time.

Pack the Essentials

Bring along water, a few small snacks (nothing too messy!) and any comfort item your child loves. A happy toddler makes all the difference.

Trust the Process

I’ve photographed plenty of busy toddlers, so you’re not alone! I’ll gently guide your family while keeping the session relaxed and playful.

At the end of the day, these photos are about capturing your family exactly as you are right now, and that’s what makes them so special.

A Few Little Tips

🤍 Make sure everyone has had something to eat beforehand.

🤍 Avoid telling your toddler they “have to behave.”

🤍 Let them run, explore and have fun.

🤍 Trust that the magic often happens in the moments you least expect.

🤍 Relax, you don’t need perfect children to have beautiful family photos.

Some of My Favourite Toddler Moments to Capture

● Tiny hands reaching up to hold yours.

● Running through the grass or along the beach.

● Big cuddles with Mum and Dad.

● Picking flowers, collecting sticks or exploring together.

● Giggles after being tickled.

● A spontaneous kiss on a baby sibling’s head.

● Holding hands while walking together.

● Those cheeky little grins that show their personality.
